August 14, 2008 ... President Signs Higher Education Opportunity Act. President George W. Bush signed the Higher Education Opportunity Act on Thursday, August 14.  This bill contains several important campus safety components, including the core provisions of the original Campus Fire Safety Right-to-Know Act.

July 18, 2008 ... Michael J. Swain, CCFS Board Member, and Campus Fire Prevention Officer at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, receives UMASS Chancellor's Citation. The annual Chancellor's Citation Award recognizes and honors employees who have demonstrated exemplary and outstanding service to the University.

June 19, 2008... NORTHBROOK, IL, UL Warns of Counterfeit Automatic Fire Sprinklers- Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is notifying consumers, distributors and property owners of automatic fire sprinklers that bear a counterfeit UL Mark for the United States and Canada. Although marked with the word "Globe," these sprinklers are not manufactured by Globe Fire Sprinkler Corp. and have not been evaluated for safety by UL. DATA COLLECTION PROJECT - Coming Soon ...

CCFS will be working to provide a launching point for a nationwide campus fire
reporting program and will start a more accurate and defined portrayal of fire as it affects colleges and universities in the United States. As there has yet to be a true study done on these numbers, CCFS will pioneer the effort with the support and expertise of several partners with a common mission of fire and life safety on campuses such as the National Fire Protection Association. >> More coming soon

SAFE ON CAMPUS

In conjunction with Campus Fire Safety Month CCFS, Kidde and The Home Depot will be sponsoring a special "Safe on Campus" program. This will give parents and students important fire safety information both online and in the store. A special web site (coming soon) will house an online contest where students will answer a few safety questions, then register for a chance to win a Home Depot gift card.
